Proclaiming The Unseen

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

In the study of Economics, we learn about the “hidden hand,”an unseen force that imposes order in the different transactions that define the economy of communities, nations, and the whole world. This concept was explained by John Papola, in a YouTube video, where he uses the example of a flock of starlings whirling in the air and, in the process, creating some beautiful shapes and designs.

The truth is, our world operates on the basis of celestial laws that bring forth order in the world. We have the laws of motion, gravity, magnetism, and of matter and energy that every science student is aware of. Unfortunately, what is not given emphasis is the obvious implication for the existence of all these “laws,” and that is, the existence of a divine“Law Maker.”

King David may not have been aware of these laws, and still, he can point to the heavens and declare the glory of God and the work of His hands (Psalm 19:1). Paul also mentions this in Romans 1:20, saying that the world is God’s personal handiwork and He made them to demonstrate His invisible attributes. For Paul, the evidence of God in the world is so obvious that no one has an excuse not to believe. The phrase “invisible attributes” is represented by one Greek word, “aoratos,” meaning unseen or invisible. We find this same Greek Word in Hebrews 11:27, where we read of Moses leaving Egypt by faith, out of obedience to an unseen God. Thus, we see the strong interconnection between faith and the unseen. This is further supported by the definition of the antonym (or opposite) of faith, which is NOT fear, but SIGHT. And so, the message here is that the true believer lives without the need for material evidence of God's presence and love. The truly faithful does not waver in the absence of wealth, power, and fame. He continues to serve God, even in the midst of trials and challenges. Moreover, the truly faithful is always prepared to proclaim the Gospel, being always ready to give an account for the hope that is in him (1 Peter 3:15). So, what kind of life do you truly desire? Is it possible, that you already have it, in the simple life that God has ordained for you, knowing that you will remain faithful and dependent on Him? Let us go forth and proclaim the Gospel, and the unseen and yet the tangible presence of a kind, merciful, loving, all-knowing and all-powerful God. Let us proclaim the glory of our unseen God so that others, too, may come to a saving faith in Him.
