A Smart Way Of Life

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Psalm 119:98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.

The book of Psalms reflects the praise and devotion of King David to our Almighty God. In Psalm 119, the word of God is described as the commandments, the law, the testimonies, the ordinances, and the precepts. The word commandment in Hebrew is "mitsvah" means, a command, whether human or divine (collectively, the Law).

Looking into David's life through the lens of the Old Testament, he became a skillful musician and a very talented warrior who made him the greatest king of Israel. Besides that, he treated the precepts of God with timeless value as he echoed in verses 97-98, Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.

The only secret to becoming wiser in all our plans and decisions is by paying more attention to the word of God and applying it on a daily basis. Our spiritual adversaries also have the power to reproduce the works of God. They offered us false hopes, false miracles, a distorted gospel and false visions to attract Christians in the wrong directions. Therefore, we should be a true believer of Jesus in His word. Not just with our lips, but we should see the results in our character and actions. In Psalm 119:101, life without the shield of truth is subject to deceit, disappointment and lies.

As Jesus said, if you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you (John 15:7). As a result, abiding by it every day it will give us the surest way to excellence.

Reflection Questions: 1. How often did you get hurt and disappointed by your choice and why? 2. What condition in John 15:7 does Jesus require from you and why?
